My belief as well as that of many of the world's best
animal trainers is that the first step toward training is
building a positive relationship with your dog. Whether it
be household manners, pet obedience, competition work,
regardless of your dog or your goals, it all begins with a
relationship of mutual respect. I teach you and
your dog to understand each other. He can only give
you back what you give to him. Privileges must be earned.
The methods I use for training rely on principles for
behavioral conditioning and modification, which I learned in
college and have used all through my professional career.
Plain and simple.... reward behavior which you want to
encourage or increase, in a positive and timely manner.
Seeing your dog learn and grow
with your guidance is a truly rewarding experience. The use
of food, toys, and praise creates a willing worker and a
true companion. To use excessive or unfair correction
and compulsion creates a dog that responds to it's owner
based on fear, and it shows! In my 19 years of
training I have proof that the positive way works. It is
more fair to your dog, less stressful for both of you, and
will effectively and permanently modify behavior.
I teach owners to teach their
companions to be thinking, willing creatures. They learn how
to earn privileges and self-control from us, through
consistency and positive rewards....from you as their
leader!
I will:
* Demonstrate behavior I am teaching
* Provide you with detailed, written lesson plan for each
session
* Ask you to do homework by practicing outside of class
* Provide you with articles, references, and recommendations
* Ask that you make a commitment to your dog and your
sessions
* Be fair and humane in the methods I teach and the training
tools used
* Insist that you bring a healthy dog to class
